Emily Xie

Emily Xie is a visual artist based in New York City whose work strives to bridge the realms of art, technology, and cultural narrative. A graduate in the History of Art and Architecture, Computational Science and Engineering from Harvard University, she works with algorithms and data to explore the interplay between the organic and the systematic, and between abstraction and representation.

Xie plays with disparate materials and patterns, seeking to uncover the unified visuals and narratives they can produce. Drawing inspiration textiles, collage, and even wallpaper, she reinterprets these elements within a digital framework. Her artworks are distinguished by their lifelike textures, patterns, and realistic forms, which often incorporate elements of her Asian heritage and reflections on femininity. Xie’s generative systems therefore navigate the delicate balance between chance and control, creating art that is both intricate and evocative.

Her most notable collection to this day, Memories of Qilin, showcases Xie’s ability to blend cultural motifs with modern technology. Her recent exhibitions include venues such as the Singapore ArtScience Museum, Kunsthalle Zürich, and Unit London.
